Cloud computing is “the next big thing” in computer technology and the Google Chrome Operating System is at the forefront of its development. With Google Chrome, the software and the documents you create are all stored on Google servers somewhere. Everything is saved automatically, and backed up automatically. If your Google Chrome computer gets stolen, you lose nothing except the computer - all your stuff is still there on the Google servers. You don’t have to worry about viruses because there is an army of Google engineers watching out for them. Perhaps the most revolutionary aspect of Chrome computing is that almost everything is free. That includes the operating system and a complete suite of office applications. Even the computers themselves are very inexpensive with prices starting at around $200. Cloud computing may be the next big thing, but that means that people who want to make use of this new technology will need a guide to help them make the transition from the old way of doing things to the new Chrome way. This book is just such a guide. It distills hundreds of pages of Google support documents into 116 pages of detailed instructions on how to setup and how to use all of the powerful features Chrome makes available. This book explains all of the newest Chrome technologies such as Two-Step Authentication, Application Specific Passwords, Google Cloud Print, Google Docs, Gmail, Google Groups, and much more. What sets this book apart is that it not only describes these various aspects of Chrome, it also provides step-by-step instructions for setting-up and then using all of the modern Chrome features. Numerous screen shots are included to help clarify what the text says. Whether you have just bought your first Chromebook laptop or whether you have been using the Chrome web browser for some time, you will learn something, perhaps a lot, from this book. Chrome is going to revolutionize the way computing is done in the future. And you can experience that future right now. This book will tell you how. As an example of the level of detail you can expect from this book, here’s a summary of the contents of Section 3.3 discussing Setting Up a New Google Account 3.1 Choosing a Strong Password 3.2 Creating a New Google Account 3.3 Securing Your Google Account 3.3.1 Turn On Encryption for Your Account 3.3.2 How Does “2-Step Verification Work” 3.3.3 Set-Up “2-Step Verification” 3.3.4 Generate and Print “Backup Codes” 3.3.5 How Do You Use “Backup Codes”? 3.3.6 Generate and Print “Application Specific Passwords” 3.3.7 How Do You Use “Application Specific Passwords”? 3.3.8 Revoking “Application Specific Passwords” 3.3.9 Returning to Your Security Settings Page
Cloud Computing with Google Chrome George Root Books
I had been considering getting an inexpensive Chromebook as my "travel computer" but was concerned about all the functionality I might lose. For a $6 investment in this book, not only were my fears allayed, but I'm now wondering why I really need the expensive computer at all!The author does an excellent job of explaining the sea-change that is occurring in computing. That change is driven by many things--security concerns, the time involved in updating all the proliferating programs and add-ons, cost, etc. Google has come up with a simple and elegant solution.
This book goes one better, though: it explains many of the basic programs and functionality that already exist and how they can be utilized to replicate much of what has traditionally been accomplished by stand-alone (and expensive!) programs on millions of individual computers.
And then there's the Chrome Store....as a Mac user of some years standing, I was used to the App Store and iTunes, but I was astonished to discover how many programs, mostly free, are already out there.
The author persuasively argues that this is the wave of the future.

Cloud Computing with Google Chrome George Root Books Reviews
Great access to the understanding of your chromebook and Chrome OS period. Easy to find answers to all your questions.. Thank you..
Great book; well organized.
Is it just me, or will google cloud really "change" the whole world of "your own office"? I love it! Now if only I could find a printer with ink that wasn't criminally short-lived and laughingly overpriced!
I purchased this book along with my ACER Chromebook and it shortened my learning curve considerably. It's well written and an easy, quick read, I re-read this book several times as I worked with my Chromebook. Each time I learned something new about taking advantage of Google Chrome and Cloud computing. A very good book for anyone new to these concepts.
I encourage anyone with a Chromebook, or thinking about buying one, to buy this book. I'd been thinking about getting a Chromebook for a while, but hesitated buying one since I was somewhat vague about what a Chromebook could do and its limitations. Root's book is the first source I've read that clearly explains the capabilities of a Chromebook. Root's easy-to-follow instructions are confidence-building, especially his discussion of security and passwords. Google Inc. owes Root a big thank you for writing this book-- just reading the book's Introduction inspired me to immediately order an Acer Chromebook from Best Buy. Highly recommended!
Like most of us, I have used Google for many years but I knew that there was a lot more to it then I knew. George Root knows how to explain complicated things to the rest of us confused people. But the book has a major flaw, and George knows better, there is no index. With the current software setting up an index is a lot easier than it used to be. When I'm looking for a topic I don't want to start at the table of contents. There should also be a table of shortcuts.
If you are going to purchase a Chromebook you probably need this book.
I'm new to Google Chrome so I bought this book to get up to speed before purchasing.
Book reads easily and is very concise. Descriptions of processes are followed -up with pictures .
I had a question regarding conflicting Internet providers and I e-mailed the Author and believe it or not I received an immediate response.
shipping was super fast.
A Great purchase all the way around. I'll provide future reviews on" Chrome" as soon as I can leave a meaningful insight to the product.
With every electronic appliance - phone, computer, tablet, sprinkler system control box - you need to know a handful of steps. The other "stuff" you can look up in a manual when the time comes. This book is the missing manual with the Chromebook.
Since the book is a "" and resides in the Cloud, it can be accessed when needed.
The author did a great job of balancing between a series of a list of steps and the narrative.
This is not an exhaustive discussion of all of the features of the Chromebook and how to root the system. It is an overview of 90% of what a user needs to know or needs to have access to information.
Worth the money. Saves times.
